How to calculate VAT in Ireland — work out VAT online
To calculate VAT in Ireland, multiply your net (ex-VAT) sales by the applicable rate — 23% for most goods and services — then subtract reclaimable input VAT on business purchases. The result is the net VAT payable to Revenue for the period.
To work out VAT on a gross price, divide by 1.23 (at the standard rate) to get the net amount, then subtract net from gross. This online VAT calculator for Ireland applies Revenue rules automatically — enter net or gross figures and see output VAT, input VAT, and bi-monthly set-aside amounts instantly.
Net of VAT calculator — exclusive and inclusive prices
Net of VAT means the price before VAT is added (VAT-exclusive). Gross means the price including VAT. Use this free VAT calculator — also searched as a net of vat or ex VAT calculator — to convert either way: enter a net-of-VAT amount and get the gross total, or enter a VAT-inclusive figure and extract the net.
At Ireland’s 23% standard rate, €100 net of VAT becomes €123 gross; €123 gross divided by 1.23 returns €100 net. At the 9% second reduced rate for restaurant, catering, and hairdressing supplies (from 1 July 2026), €100 net of VAT becomes €109 gross. Switch the Ex-VAT / Inc-VAT toggle above — no spreadsheet maths required for quotes, invoices, or supplier bills.
Free VAT analysis online — no software download
Run free VAT analysis in your browser: estimate output VAT on sales, reclaimable input VAT on purchases, and how much to set aside each bi-monthly period. This is a free online VAT calculator for Ireland — not VAT calculator software you have to download or install.
Skip the VAT calculator software free download search: enter turnover and purchases, pick the Irish rate (23%, 13.5%, 9%, or another Revenue rate), and review free VAT analysis instantly. Switch to UK rules when you need HMRC rates and the £90,000 registration threshold.
Irish VAT rates database — IE VAT rates at a glance
Use this VAT rate database to check Irish VAT percentages before you calculate VAT on invoices or quotes. The standard Irish VAT rate is 23%; reduced rates apply to fuel, hospitality, livestock, and zero-rated exports.
Select the rate that matches most of your sales in the calculator above. The table below reflects 2026 Revenue rates — always confirm unusual supplies with Revenue before filing.
| Rate | Category | Applies to |
|---|---|---|
| 23% | Standard rate | Most goods and services |
| 13.5% | Reduced rate | Fuel, building services, certain repairs |
| 9% | Second reduced rate | Restaurant/catering, hairdressing, newspapers, sporting facilities |
| 4.8% | Livestock rate | Live cattle, sheep, and goats |
| 0% | Zero rate | Exports, qualifying books, children's clothing |
13.5% VAT calculator Ireland — reduced rate supplies
Use the 13.5% VAT calculator setting for Irish reduced-rate supplies — fuel, building services, certain repairs, and professional services that qualify for the second standard reduced rate. Enter your net or gross amount and the calculator applies 13.5% output VAT instantly.
At 13.5%, €100 net becomes €113.50 gross and €113.50 gross divides back to €100 net. Switch the rate selector above from 23% to 13.5% before calculating — many hospitality and construction quotes use this rate rather than the standard 23%.
Irish VAT calculator — net to gross converter
An Irish VAT converter lets you switch between net and gross prices without manual maths. At the 23% standard rate, €100 net becomes €123 gross; €123 gross divides back to €100 net.
Use the price toggle above to enter ex-VAT or inc-VAT amounts in euro. The calculator normalises everything to net before applying Irish or UK rates — useful for invoices, quotes, and checking supplier bills.
Online VAT calculator Ireland — free, no download
This is a free online VAT calculator for Ireland — no software download, no sign-up, and no account required. It runs in your browser and applies current Irish Revenue thresholds (€85,000 goods / €42,500 services) plus UK HMRC rules when you switch region.
Use it to estimate VAT on turnover, convert between net and gross in euro, and plan bi-monthly set-aside before you register or file with Revenue.
VAT registration thresholds and return filing
Irish businesses must register when rolling 12-month turnover exceeds €85,000 for goods (or €42,500 for services-only). The calculator flags when your entered turnover crosses these limits.
Once registered, most businesses file bi-monthly VAT returns with Revenue. For full return preparation, reconciliation, and ROS filing support, see our VAT return services for Ireland.
August 2026 Irish VAT filing dates
Revenue’s August 2026 calendar lists monthly VAT 3 for the July period on 19 August (plus Return of Trading Details where the VAT accounting period ends in July). Use this calculator to estimate set-aside, then follow the Ireland August SME deadlines checklist for PAYE, RCT, and CT windows in the same month.
Hotels, B&Bs, and guesthouses selling accommodation-with-meals packages should also check multi-rate apportionment: guest accommodation stays at the reduced rate while restaurant and catering services moved to the 9% second reduced rate from 1 July 2026.
Guest accommodation and 9% catering packages
From 1 July 2026, restaurant and catering supplies (and hairdressing) use Ireland’s 9% second reduced VAT rate. Guest and holiday accommodation remains at the reduced rate, so mixed packages need separate lines for rooms and meals — alcohol and many soft drinks stay at the standard rate.
Use the 9% setting above to check catering amounts, then read Revenue’s guest and holiday accommodation guidance before you finalise July VAT 3 due 19 August 2026.
